10 Minutes A Day

Today is the last day of the 10 minutes a day project.

Total time spent for the month. 3 hours 40 minutes.

Total income was $0 and expenses were also $0.

I should have spent more time marketing. The research was so much fun, I overdid it a little. But considering that this is a long term project I am right on schedule.

Next month the 10 minutes a day project will change to the 1 hour a week project. I will also start a second 1 hour a week project.

Monday or Tuesday I will update the Penny Project balance. Looking at the rough numbers I should be over $400 in cash, plus the blogs and websites as assets.

Stop back Monday for a Crazy project I am going to start. I got this idea from something that happened by accident and I think everyone will enjoy it.

Make Money Quick - What Is Your Risk

Yesterday I asked the question about what to do with $400. The goal being to make 200% within 60 days.

One idea mentioned in comments was to invest in a John Chow review. While I agree that I would get more then 1000 visitors from a JC review I don't think those visitors would convert to $800 of income.

The only program I promote that John does not is PayPerPost. So far of the almost 40 people registered under me in PayPerPost 0 of them converted into "posties". More on this later next month.

The ideas I mentioned were also along the advertising path. I'm still looking into direct mail.

Other ideas I thought of are vending machines. I could buy a single or fairly used double vending machine and place it somewhere. Average returns are $25 per month. This does not fit into my goal, but the risk is lower.

Since my goal is to make money quickly from this investment I must take on some risk. For example instead of a safe stock market pick I would look for a ripe penny stock. The risk is much higher, but penny stocks have been known to triple in under a day.

I am going to continue my direct mail research then move on to another idea. My timeline to invest this money is early to mid December. Plenty of time to research ideas.

How Would You Invest $400

Last night I looked at prices for magazine advertising. To get a small ad in a popular Entrepreneur magazine will cost $675. Even some of the card decks that I found were well above $500.

This is just a rough guess based on a little research, but based on the magazine circulation that $675 would generate about 1000 visitors. That is 68 cents per visitor.

Card deck advertising was a little better at price but I would expect visits to be lower and conversions even worse. This would put card deck advertising at almost $1 per visitor.

Tonight I will look at renting a list and doing a direct mailing. Considering my $400 budget this idea will most likely not fit within that amount.

If the goal is to invest $400 expecting a return of 200% within 60 days. What would you invest in?

10 Minutes A Day

It has been a couple days since I reported on the 10 minutes a day project.

I am still working on getting traffic to the blog and doing some SEO work to get it natural search. With only 10 minutes a day I am severely limited.

Saturday will be an added day off so that I can round the total time for the month. If you remember the one week I took 2 days off. So the total time invested for the month will be 3 1/2 hours.

I have some ideas for October and can't wait to get started. The 10 minutes a day project is long term and will also continue thru October.

The End of Google Page Rank a.k.a. PR

I just read over at Adsense Tracker about the end of Google Page Rank system.

There is mention of a Page Rate system where searchers rate pages. This sounds interesting, but even with strict rules, can be manipulated. Just look at the attempts to manipulate the Alexa ranking system.

The story is written as a humor article and I have doubt that any of it is true. But take a moment and think about how important the Google PR factor is.

What are your thoughts on changing from Page Rank to a system where searchers Rate a page?

Great Offer and Good Advertising

Since joining Wealthy Affiliate 2 weeks ago I started to do more advertising to my blogs.

Why I was so stingy with money in the beginning I will never know.

Promoting the right offer with your advertising money is key. The tools at Wealthy Affiliate are helping me fine tune my advertising campaigns.

If all goes as planned I will be working on my business instead of in my business. You do know the difference, right? By working on my business I will be putting systems in place that make money. Instead of working in my business by actively performing every task.

I would like to thank Wealthy Affiliate and also Donald Trump for getting me on the right path. No I am not going into real estate. But what works for real estate works for blogs and websites too.

End of Year Planning

Today I was thinking about what to do at the end of the year. I want to invest most or all of the project balance.

Right now I have a few forms of advertising running, but I am considering running an offline campaign. Either a mailing or magazine advertising.

It depends on what offer I can find and test before the end of the year.

I didn't get a chance to work on the 10 Minutes A Day project yet. The plan is to do some promotion today. In the next couple days I will make another post.

As for "releasing" what blogs I am running my tests on. That is something I need to think about. I will release some of them, but if I need to run a long term test I can't tell you all of them.

So here is a little nugget for now.

This is the BLOG I created for the 30 Day Challenge III.

Jello Shots

Stats for the past 30 days:

510 Visitors
8 Blog Posts
$2.67 Income
$0 Expense

My niche is slightly outside the parameters set by the challenge. Competition for my desired term is tough and I only get long tail search results.

The 10 minutes a day blog project is going to be long term. So I will provide some stats during the month and financials at the end of the month, but I am not going to release the blog URL.

I got 2 new audiobooks yesterday and I also have a topic I want to cover. Stop back every day so you don't miss a post.

Make Money Projects Weekly Recap

As much as I would love to work on the 10 minutes a day project today, I can't. In the beginning I limited myself to 6 days a week. Last week I took 2 days off and only worked 4, so I could put in 10 minutes today and still be within the monthly project limit.

For October I am considering keeping each project to 1 hour per week. This too I think will cause frustration when I want to work on a project but have to stop because of my project time limit. But in the end, this will keep me from spending too much time on a project that doesn't make much money.

I did a couple Pay Per Post reviews this week. There is a $18.50 offer that I might take later today if it is still available. I am going to have to contact PPP about my referrals. I have 4 pages of referrals and a few pending review my posts. So far none of these have converted to a payment yet. This is now almost $500. I don't know what the reason is, but I am now going to have to investigate.

Today I will be spending some time doing more research on Wealthy Affiliate. I am anxious to see how the Ad compare program works now that a week has past. This could be the best tool ever if it helps me find niches & products to sell all in one place.

Time for Church, then a bike ride after lunch. I will get back to work later tonight.

10 Minutes A Day - Pilar Post

I didn't put in my 10 minutes yet on my 10 minutes a day project. But the plan is to start writing a pillar post.

This post will be informational and include 1 or 2 product links. It will probably take me 3 days (10 minutes each) to write all the content and get it edited.

Then I will be able to start promoting at some of the larger networks. Until the traffic comes in I can't plan October.

The one big change I am going to make in October is that each project will be alloted 1 hour per week. When my schedule is full of projects I won't start a new one until I stop an old one.

So far the 10 minutes a day project is close to 3 hours and $0 income. Next week I hope to change that somewhat.

10 Minutes A Day - Not Much Time Today

First, I did not realize that LinkWorth had a paid post option. Thank You Scarlett Tarjick. I now see all the cool ways to make money with LinkWorth. I will have to try them out in the future and report back here.

For the 10 minutes a day project I just put AdSense on the BLOG and spent the rest of my time thinking about the next post. It is too early to start promoting, so I will just do planning instead.

I have a meeting tonight and need to get stuff ready for Heritage Day on Saturday. This won't leave me much time to do anything else.

I should be able to test some new ideas over the weekend.

10 Minutes A Day and Other Project Updates

I made post number two on the blog for the 10 minutes a day project. Yesterday I started writing, but didn't have enough time to finish and edit.

Tomorrow I will finish looking for products to promote and start working on the next post. I would like to have the advertising up by the weekend and have post three ready for Monday.

Next week I will do a mix of writing and promoting.

I wanted to do an update on two of my other projects.

First is creating a website to host on my Wealthy Affiliate membership hosting. That is another cool thing about Weathly Affiliate, they throw in hosting with your membership. Right now I am still going through the forum. I want to skim the beginner and intermediate sections and start looking at the advanced section.

I noticed there is something big that is going to happen on October 9th at Wealthy Affiliate. Unknown what it is, but when I find out I will let you know, or join better yet, I highly suggest that you join.

The other project I wanted to mention is Pay Per Post. I looked at all the pending members that signed up under me. If they all have a blog that is at least 3 months old and do a post for PayPerPost then I will get close to $400. Yep, $400 for doing almost nothing. In reality I am guessing that only 2 or 3 will follow through with working on their blog and doing a paid post.

The affiliate program is yet another good reason to join .

10 Minutes A Day - Almost Ready For Launch

Today I started to write a blog post and build some affiliate links. I didn't have enough time to finish editing my post, so it is saved and will get published tomorrow.

Building the affiliate links took longer then expected and will also be pushed to tomorrow or Thursday. I will build a couple link groups and start testing them when I have at least 3 or 4 posts on the blog.

Finding products with an affiliate program was very easy for this niche. Almost too easy. By the end of the month I will start driving traffic. At that point I will see if this niche is worth working on in October.

The other new blog that I started this month isn't doing so well. I have yet to find an affiliate product to test the market. My traffic driving tests aren't working either. The niche is very obscure, so I am not going to worry about it for now.

10 Minutes A Day - Final BLOG Format Change

Today in the 10 Minutes a Day project I made the final BLOG format change.

This was to setup a FeedBurner feed, install the code in the blog and create the subscribe link. Most of the time was formatting the FeedBurner feed to do what I want it to do.

Tomorrow is post number two on the blog. I if have time I will throw on an AdSense skyscraper to hold the spot where future product advertising will go.

This will be a fun niche and I am looking forward to creating content for the blog.

Taking A Mental Vacation

We are planning a weekend get-away to Philadelphia in October. I love planning mini vacations.

It is great to take a 9 day vacation once or twice a year. But the 3 day mini vacations are just as much fun and usually not as expensive.

I really wanted to go to the beach, but with the limited time we decided on someplace a little closer.

Philadelphia, PA.

We are going to spend a day shopping and a day at the Philadelphia zoo. Shopping in downtown Philly is so cool. I love the outdoor restaurants and watching all the people.

Now the countdown begins. Mini vacations are so much fun.

The 10 minutes a day project is going to start heading in the make money phase this week. Assuming my traffic plan works I should have some income by Friday.

The blog I created for the 30 Day Challenge is still going strong. There was a week of slow numbers, but things are starting to return to normal. I'm going to post once a week and do traffic building once or twice a week.

10 Minutes A Day - Getting Closer To Make Money Time

After taking 2 days off from the 10 minutes a day project I decided I better work today. I'll give you advanced notice now. In October I am going to try a One Hour A Week project. The 2 projects amount to the same total time, but having a 10 minute limit per day is making it hard to get momentum. It seems like as soon as I start I have to stop.

Today in the 10 minutes a day project I created a new blog. I modified the template a little and made an initial welcome to my blog post.

Since I don't work on the 10 minutes a day project on Sunday's I will have to wait until Monday to add in the advertising elements.

While I might add an AdSense I think I am going to mainly stick with advertising I can control better. You may have noticed that I started doing that with this BLOG. At one point I had 3 AdSense units and 1 text link AdSense unit. I am now down to 1 AdSense skyscraper.

In looking over my advertising income I figured there are better ways to make money from my blog real estate. You will notice that John Chow did this late last month and ProBlogger did it 2 or 3 months ago as well.

More changes are on the way, and hopefully more income too.

Today I Found an Awesome Affiliate Tool

This is a screen shot of the tools listing on the Wealthy Affiliate website. I had to blur most of the screen. And I can't show you the tool itself.

But I can tell you that I just used it for the first time and I now know what I will be doing the rest of the night.

Have you ever wanted to know what products sell well? One way to identify what sells is when you find ads that have been running for a long time. You see an advertiser will stop spending money when it isn't profitable to advertise.

This "Research Top Listings" tool helps you monitor advertisers. Just enter in a search term and it will show you the Google ads for that term. Then save your results as a project. Finally you just re-run the search in the saved project and it will compare your previous results with current results.

It would take me hours to print out Google Ads and manually compare them by hand. I am amazed at all the tools and resources included in my Wealthy Affiliate membership. This was the best decision I have made in a long time.

I'm off to use the "Research Top Listings" tool to spy on more competitors. Looks like I will be taking a break from the 10 minutes a day project again today. :-)

Make Money Online Project Updates

I decided to take a day off from the 10 minutes a day project. So instead of working 60 minutes this week, I will work only 50. I will probably cut back on my other projects today and for the next few days.

Like I mentioned the other day I joined Wealthy Affiliate on Tuesday. They have an 8 week training program in addition to all the tools and resources. Absolutely amazing! The tools alone are worth more then the membership price. They even include website hosting and some very cool templates so you can get started quickly.

I could probably skip the first 3 or 4 weeks of the training since I already have experience, but I like to start from the beginning. You never know when you will learn something new, even if you think you know it all.

My active projects within the One Penny Project portfolio include. 10 Minutes A Day, One Wealthy Affiliate project (more to be added soon), one user generated content site, my 30 day challenge blog that is still making money even though I only update it once a week and a few other blogs that I have been testing stuff on.

An update on Pay Per Post. Last month I was thinking about doing $10 a day worth of posts from PayPerPost. I have since then changed my mind. I am going to only do posts that pay at least $10 for 200 words or $20 for 300 words. The smaller posts are just not worth my time.

Time to get back to tools at Wealthy Affiliate. I will report on the 10 minutes a day project tomorrow.

10 Minutes A Day - Product Research

Today I did some research on products to promote for my 10 minutes a day project.

This will help guide some of the possible paths to take. I want to get away from using AdSense, so I spent the whole 10 minutes doing product research.

I could easily spend the next 3 days filling my notebook with products, but I will probably stop when I get about 10.

Instead of planning my writing ahead I changed my mind and will write on the fly. If my 10 minutes is up before I am done writing then I will just save the post for the next day.

Michael

P.S. It is going to take me a few weeks to go through all the stuff over at Wealthy Affiliate. The forum looks active. I can't wait to network with other successful internet marketers.

Making The Decision To Succeed

Today I made a turning point decision in my internet marketing career.

For the past 3 years I developed and marketed websites learning from my mistakes. I built my business to the point it makes two car payments a month. Not bad, but after 3 years I decided it was time for a change.

I have been thinking about this for a few days. To join a network of others who are successful at what I want to be successful at. I am choosing the path to success.

I did my research and made a decision. There are many programs to pick from, but one has been in my marketing notebook for almost a year now.

Tonight I joined Wealthy Affiliate. Why it took me so long to pay a measly 5% of my internet earnings for this membership I have no idea.

The projects I am working on will continue as planned. I will impose some limits on what I do on my "no money" projects. It wouldn't be fair to use something I learned from a paid membership to advance a project that I don't plan on investing money in. The $30 membership will show up as an expense in this project because I do plan on using what I learn as part of some of my projects here.

Today I made the decision to take my internet business to the next level. As you know my goal is to make enough to cover the mortgage on a beach house. By joining Wealthy Affiliate I now feel that I am on the right path to success.

Invest in your success today. Don't wait 3 years like I did.

10 Minutes A Day - Getting Ready To Start Blogging

Today is the second day of week two in the 10 minutes a day project.

While I want to focus on more then one keyword phrase I will only have time to do one at 10 minutes a day. Next month I will add a second group to the network.

I sketched out what my network is going to look like. Tomorrow I am going to start working on content. The plan is to have some content ready for posting.

I started a side project over the weekend not limiting myself to 10 minutes, but still keeping the time down. I think a 30 minute max per day will be more then enough for next month.

10 Minutes A Day - Make A Mind Map

Today is the last day of week one for the 10 minutes a day project. I can't wait until next week, 10 minutes goes so fast.

Today I made a mind map of the good keywords that I found the other day. If you don't know what mind mapping is you need to learn.

Mind mapping is a great process that aids thinking and makes life easier for us visual types.

Monday I will sketch out what phrase I am going to start with and on Tuesday I will start working on my content. By the end of the week I will have a blog online.

Doing Nothing Hurts Your SEO Ranking

The experiment I did last week was a failure. Or a success in that I learned a valuable lesson.

On the main blog I started for the 30 day challenge in August, I stopped doing daily updates in September. This was to see if the traffic would continue.

At first things went well. Traffic continued and income almost doubled even though I was doing nothing.

Then things started to go downhill. 3 Days ago traffic went into a heavy decline. Today when I checked my search position I found out why my traffic went down. I was no longer on the first page for 2 of my desired search terms.

Now to further narrow down the why I need to get my ranking back. Like I said I did nothing other then one post on this blog for September. So the decline in position could be from not posting or not promoting.

I need to decide if I will post and not promote or promote and only post once a week. Does search engine position come from offsite or onsite work? I know it is a combination of the two, but what is the balance.

Michael

P.S. Can't wait to get back to work on the 10 minutes a day project tomorrow.

Text Ad Space For Sale

I have a few Text Ad spots for sale. If you don't already have an account, here is a coupon to get $100 in FREE Links.

The top text link spot is now resolved with Ebay and the winning bidder lost their Ebay account. Thats what happens when you try to scam someone.

Tomorrow we are heading to the York Fair. We will be there for the church service, then eat until we can't eat no more.

I am anxious for Monday to get back to work on the 10 Minutes A Day project.

10 Minutes A Day - Thinking

Today is the last day of week 1. Total time invested so far is 1 hour. This doesn't include the reporting that I am doing here on this blog.

The goal for today is to think. I was going to try thinking and planning, but decided to separate them into their own 10 minute blocks.

Keeping the time limit down to 10 minutes is harder then I thought. The project for next month will need to have more time at least once a week. Seems like I just get started when I have to stop.

10 Minutes A Day - Research Review

Incredible how fast 10 minutes really is. Good thing I use a timer.

Today I looked over the research and numbers from the past 2 days. I used a highlighter to pick the ones with a good search volume and low number of competition. I also highlighted a few that I liked even though the competition was out of the range.

When I had everything highlighted I went back to Google and looked at those keyword phrases again. This time instead of competition I was just looking to see if there were any ads displayed and if there were any blogs in the natural search results.

This is more important for the higher competition keywords, but still something to take note of.

Tomorrow is going to be a thinking day. I will spend the 10 minutes looking over my research and making a plan. As much as I want to start a new blog on Monday I think the planning might take two or three days.

How Many Words Can You Type?

I did a little test today to see how many words I could type in under 10 minutes. Leaving a little time to edit and post. In a little over 8 minutes I can type 314 words.

That is about average for a blog post. So it looks like my 10 Minutes A Day project will work out when I get to the content part.

I was thinking about doubling the time to 20 minutes. That is what I have planned for next month, so I will just wait until then to up my time.

By the way in order to be able to type the 314 so fast I already had the research in my head. For example it takes me 10 minutes to do 100 words and 20 minutes to do 200 when I am doing a paid review. It all depends on how much research is needed.

For the 10 minutes a day project I am going to work on a passion topic so most will come from my head or be a real experience.

Michael

10 Minutes A Day - Research Continued

Today is day 4 of my 10 Minutes A Day project.

Using the research data from yesterday I went over to Google and did an exact match search for each of the keyword phrases. I made a note of the number of sites returned for each one.

Tomorrow I should be able to wrap up the research and move on to creating a new blog. I will probably spend some time thinking and planning so it could be week 2 until I create the new blog.

Michael

10 Minutes A Day - Keyword Research

Today is day 3 in my 10 Minutes A Day project.

I started to do some keyword research over on WordTracker. Using the products and offers I found over the past 2 days I did searches for keywords.

This will give me a general idea of how many searches each term gets. I could use the tool from the 30 Day Challenge, but by now it can't be accurate. The results will be skewed from all the test searches.

My list is about a page and a half and that should be plenty to work with. Tomorrow I will do a competition research. If that doesn't work out I will come back to this step.

Since I am only working on this test project 10 minutes a day I can't waste time over searching. Market & Competition research are very important, but this is a test.

The Wall Of Blogs

I just purchased a spot over on The Wall Of Blogs from Nabil Khan. For right now you can get a 125x125 block for only $5.

If you act quickly you can get a spot on the top row. I was going to buy a 250x250 block, but don't have the time to make a graphic right now. I'm guessing many of the spots will have pics of hot women, so my plain text should stick out (I hope).

Tomorrow I will post about the coolest show on TV. Amazing stuff, absolutely the best show on TV.

The Power of Education

As you may have noticed one of the projects I am working on this month is the 10 minutes a day project. The only reason I know I can get away with only working 10 minutes a day is because of my education.

This was my 3rd year in the thirty day challenge and I have been selling online for almost 4 years. Over that time I purchased some products, training and books that helped me to learn and grow.

I read at least 2 books a month and try to read more. Education is very important. The desire to achieve more in my business fuels my passion with learning.

In my day job I spend at least 1 week in training every year. This is in addition to all the books and research I do on the job.

Take time to learn, you will be glad you did.

Find Land For Sale - Land For Investing

Today I was listening to "Why We Want You To Be Rich" again and one thing that stood out was when Donald Trump said that the original price for Manhattan was $24. Imagine that transaction.

Donald Trump is one of the largest developers in New York city. I don't think I could be a big name developer like Donald Trump, but investing in land is smart.

I would love to own a beach house one of these days and one of the things I looked at was buying land at auction.

Today I found a site where you can Search Land for Sale - Click Here! I didn't see any land near the beach, but the site was easy to use and I will bookmark them to use again.

The site was easy to use and if you are looking to invest in land, check them out.

Michael

10 Minutes A Day - Second Day

Working only 10 minutes a day on this project is harder then I thought it would be. I don't like to stop when things are just starting to get moving. But there is a reason I picked 10 minutes and you will find out why at the end of this month.

Today I Checked out the newest 20 programs listed on ShareASale. and also did a few searches based on those results. Knowing that I only had 10 minutes I just jotted down the offers that looked interesting to me.

After that I went over to Amazon and looked at some of the bestsellers. Again only making notes of the product titles that interested me.

I now have a list of 16 titles. With 6 other networks to pick from I could easily double that list. But instead of wasting time building a list I might not need, tomorrow I will focus on making the list smaller.

Michael

Design Changes For One Penny Project

I made a few changes to the blog design tonight.

The most obvious is the title text was replaced by a picture I took at the beach. I love the beach and wanted to use a beach photo. The image height is a little much, but I need the space for the text and to keep the integrity of what is going on in the image.

The second change I made is not so obvious and I'm not going to say what it is. I may end up doing a few more adjustments over the next few days.

I just noticed that the One Penny Project text color doesn't match the blog post title color. I pulled the hex number from the template, so it must be from resizing the image.

Don't forget to stop back tomorrow for day 2 of the 10 minutes a day project.

Michael

10 Minutes A Day - First Day

Today starts my 10 Minutes A Day project. I was shocked at how fast the 10 minutes passed. Good thing I had a timer to stop me otherwise I would have kept going.

The task for today is to look for products to promote from networks that I belong to.

I started with CBEngine and looked at the new ClickBank products. All I did was scroll down the list and write down the titles of product titles that looked interesting to me. I will research more about the products later. I'm not going to use ClickBank as a starting point for research because there are too many products to go through.

After that I went over to MaxBounty and looked at the new offers, then did a search of open offers. I made a note of the titles that looked interesting to me and will research more later this week.

I was getting ready to start a third network when the timer ran out. Tomorrow will be much like today, gathering a list of products to promote. The key is to pick products that interest me, not just any product with a high payout.

10 Minutes A Day - Prep

Today I am doing some prep work for the 10 minutes a day project. This isn't part of the project, just getting things ready.

For example to ensure that I don't go over my daily 10 minute limit I downloaded a javascript program that will count down from 10 minutes then pop up a message box when time runs out. This will save me from having to keep an eye on the time. A kitchen timer would do just as well, but I like to use my computer for as much as I can.

The second thing I did was start a document to record all the steps I am going to follow and my results. At this point I don't even know what all the steps will be. Roughly there will be research, blog creation, promotion and testing. By keeping a document to record my steps it will be easier for someone to follow after the project is completed.

P.S. I see that PayPer Post added some great new offers today.

How Do You Feel About Buying A Car

Would you rather go to the Dentist to have a cavity filled or to a car dealer to buy a new car? Interesting how many people have to stop and think about that one.

At www.MyDealerReport.com they aim to help car buyers improve their experience when transacting with a car dealer. Use the search tool to find reports on dealers in your area. You can also help others by submitting a report on your experience purchasing a car.

For me, I love my Hyundai and have had 4 great years of service from the dealer. So when it comes time to trade in there is a good chance I will be going back. This is something that other potential buyers may want to know and now with MyDealerReport.com I can voice my opinion about my car buying experience.

Weekly Recap For Week Ending September 2, 2007

First let me say that if you don't see your comment approved that is because I considered it SPAM or a waste of my readers time. A 7 word comment with 2 of the words being links to your site will never get approved. And if you want to do a link exchange, please use the contact form, not a comment loaded with links. I don't mind approving a comment with one link it it, but only if it adds value to the post.

This week was about finding your Passion when blogging. I need to work regularly on aligning what I am doing with my passion.

Earlier in the week my Contact system was completed and is now in testing. This will give readers a way to contact me without the need for email.

Yesterday I reported my August Income and gave some hint as to what project I will be working on for September. The 30 day challenge ended Friday night and I posted my results on Saturday.

Stop back tomorrow for my 10 Minutes A Day project.

Wave a nice Holiday Weekend!

It Takes Money To Make Money

The saying "It takes money to make money" is so true. I am amazed at the results from adding a little money to promoting my business ventures.

When I first started this project I didn't have any money to spend. One of the projects I am working on for September will also be done without money. But what I am talking about is promoting my existing blogs and websites.

I put hours of effort into "offsite" research, networking and linking. Often this effort produces very little traffic results. My custom comments research tool is working well and has improved the results of my effort.

Traffic is vital to the success of any site. SEO is an important part of that traffic. Over 80% of the traffic to my sites comes from search engines. A good portion of that 80% comes from Google, but Yahoo, MSN and others also send visitors my way.

With building tools of my own and buying SEO tools & services I am able to leverage my business. Instead of working harder I can work smarter and focus more time on building my business the right way.

August Blogging Income For This Project

Earlier in the month I mentioned a new format for reporting my penny project income. Instead of grouping by investment amount I am going to report by source like I see many other bloggers doing.

Current Assets Non-Cash: Assets include 4 Domain Names 3 of them currently hosted with content. 2 blogs hosted on free service providers (blogger & wordpress). I did some cleanup and removed the blogs that were not getting much traffic.

This month I will be adding at least 1 more blog as part of the 10 Minutes A Day project.

Cash Balance: Cash Balance to date of $ 352.74 recorded as follows. August 1st cash balance was $ 137.40 corrected to include a hosting fee I forgot to subtract. Income was $ 215.34 as outlined below with expenses of $ 34.76 including some advertising that I purchased. That dose not include an ebay auction listing as I have filed a non-payment dispute with Ebay. If the winning bidder pays before the deadline I will record the income and listing expense next month.

PayPerPost $151.81
Text-Link-Ads $18.75
AdSense $19.78
Affiliate Income $25 (TLA)

At the current rate it looks like I will make my goal of $1,000 by Thanksgiving. Things are improving each month and my network of sites is growing. I have some big plans for September and October.

The 10 Minutes A Day project starts Monday. Don't bother doing a Google search for it, this is my idea, not a big competition like the 30 day challenge.
