Free Sample At Starbucks Coffee

This morning I stopped at Starbucks to get a Chai Tea Latte. They were giving away free samples of ground coffee.

I don't care for coffee, but picked one up anyway. I could probably find someone to sell it to for this project.

Something else I was thinking is that I could get some free samples from a bunch of places and then sell it on ebay. It could be a mystery sampler box or something like that.

Don't forget about Monday. There will only be one sheet for sale, so the first person to pay gets it. I am not going to use an auction format.

Selling One Sheet Of Paper For ...

On Monday February 5th at 10AM EST I will be selling one sheet of paper. I haven't decided if I will use an auction format or first person to buy gets it.

To stick with the plan I will use a single sheet of paper and one marker. There will only be one sheet made and it will be real paper, not a digital copy.

The price will be between $40-60. At first I was thinking of going with a lower price and selling multiple sheets to anyone. But then I figured that wouldn't be fair to the project. I will sign the sheet so when I hit my goal and you see me on the news you can re-sell this sheet on eBay. :-)

This single sheet will be my idea mindmap template. When I start a project I create a mind map of the process. I can't say much now and I won't say much on Monday, since that wouldn't be fair to the buyer if I release too much info. But what I will say is that I listen to 2 audio books on marketing every month and also read at least 1 book on marketing or business every month. So the knowledge I have from all that reading will be evident in this template. Not to mention all the projects I develop using this thought process.

Use it to think up new ideas or plug in your existing idea and figure out ways to make more money.

Profit (income - s&h) from the sale of this sheet of paper will count in the penny project. But have no fear, even though this will bump me up a couple levels quickly I will still continue to test and write about smaller transaction ideas.

p.s. Don't forget to stop back Monday morning.

Time And Money SuperBowl Commercials

Yesterday I mentioned about effort and results.

There are so many factors that have an impact on the end result.

Money is one of them. This Sunday a 30 second commercial will cost $2.6 Million.

Thirty Seconds! But we all know that the advertisers are not buying just any old 30 seconds, these spots are special. They are part of the 2007 SuperBowl.

What would you need to sell to cover the cost to think up, make and run a 30 second commercial during the SuperBowl? I can't imagine having something to sell that I could justify spending that kind of money.

This Sunday when you watch the commercials. Look for brands that you don't know. My guess is that there won't be any. With prices like this, advertisers are trying to build their brand.

Will sales increase the next day for the advertisers? This we don't know. But the one thing I do know is that on a iMedia podcast earlier this year, there was a discussion on how poorly GoDaddy did with their commercial to website experience.

As it turns out, they tell you in the commercial to go to their website to see the commercial that they were not allowed to play on the air. But when you get to the GoDaddy website, the TV Commercial link is hard to find.

The key here is "Easy". GoDaddy did the right thing telling watchers to visit the GoDaddy website, but they didn't make it easy to do what they told you to do.

Making Money For Charity

In November I went to Luling Louisiana to help with the rebuilding efforts. I went with 8 others from the church I go to.

Today we had a lunch at our church to raise money for our next trip. Each member from the trip spoke on the experience. There was a slideshow and lots of home made food was served. We are planning to go down again in April.

Michael At Fish Camp

My point of discussion here is that this is our second fund raiser. We will need a few more to have enough money to go.

The effort for the first fund raiser was less then the lunch today, but both produced about the same profit.

Our third fundraiser is going to be somewhat like the first, but unknown yet how much profit we will make.

Huge effort does not always bring proportional results. The doubling challenge of taking small amounts of money to double is a learning exercise in how this works.

I can bust my butt to get something done, only to have it produce minimal results. Or I can pop something out in 5 minutes and double my money.

Join My Community at MyBlogLog

I joined MyBlogLog a couple weeks ago.

At first I wasn't very active. But now I spend time visiting the BLOG community's that I like and interacting with people.

I'm not much for social networks because of people using them for bad. For example people will send out 1000's of messages promoting their stuff.

On MyBlogLog you can't send mass messages. That is a good thing.

I am taking part in one on one conversations and even found some people that I know.

This is one of the sites I now visit every day.

One Page Money Making Ideas

The other day I mentioned about thinking up ideas on how you could write something on a single sheet of paper and sell it.

Today I did a little brainstorming and came up with a couple ideas.

Sketch a portrait - If you have some artistic ability you could do a sketch of someone. It would be somewhat like a cartoon since we can only use 1 marker.

Advertising - I know what you are thinking. He always talks about advertising. Sorry about that. Advertising is a byproduct of marketing and I love marketing. So anyway, this idea is to sell the space for advertising. Either to one person or business or multiple businesses. What value can you bring to the person or business with that sheet of paper? I have some ideas, but you think about it.

Directions - Are you good with a PC? Know a lot about Viruses and SPAM. Write up directions for someone to download and install free anti-virus software and adware software. Then sell it to someone who is complaining about their PC being slow. No fair doing the work for them, this is about the paper, not labor.

I have one more in my head, but I might do this one. More on that later.

Feel free to submit your ideas.

Free - Just Pay Shipping and Handling

Today there is an offer on Hydra Network to promote a product that is free with S&H.

I love those types of offers to promote. The risk is very low (only pay $4 S&H) for the consumer. But the merchant will often pay $10 or more for this type of lead.

The reason the merchant can pay me (or you if you promote Hydra Media Network) is that they know the lifetime value of a customer.

One more thing about Hydra Network that I want to mention. A few days ago I posted about their link creation tool and I was wrong. There are 2 option for creating a link and I was using the wrong one. It was even clearly marked. My Bad.

Considering the number of new offers they add every day Hydra Network is one of my top 3 CPA/CPL networks to promote.

Making Money Plans Or Action

We all have ideas on how to make money. Some will work and some (many) will not.

But 100% of the ideas we don't try, won't work.

I don't remember where I read this. But people would rather hold onto the dream of making money instead of trying something and finding out that it didn't work.

Again, sorry I don't remember my source, but only 1 in 7 will read an ebook they purchased.

Hope appears to be more important than action. For me, I take action. I fall on my face many times, but I remember what caused me to fall and I don't do it again.

I am off to take action.

The Penny Doubler Apprentice

I was thinking today how trying to double your money is like an episode of "The Apprentice".

You are given a set budget, general guidelines for a task and a goal to make as much money as you can.

I don't have any prizes to give out and I don't have the power to fire anyone. But lets have a little challenge anyway.

The task if you choose to accept this challenge. Is to take a plain 8 1/2 x 11 in. Piece of paper and a black sharpie (or other brand) marker.

Now figure out how to sell that paper for as much money as you can. When you sell your paper, stop back here and post a comment on what you did and how much you made.

Don't cheat and tell someone what you are doing to get them to give you more money or to buy your sheet of paper.

If you have a BLOG or website you can sell online, but you must sell the sheet of paper, not a digital copy. And the buyer must pay for the envelope, shipping and your mileage to the post office. No paid advertising, including Ebay. Free advertising is ok, online or offline.

Good Luck,

Michael

Ebay Classifieds Auction Test Results

Last month I tested the new Classified Auction format on Ebay. The cost was $10 for a 30 day listing.

My auction only got about 150 views. Not bad, but I can do better with PPC.

From what I saw in other classified auction listings the results may be close to what I got. There were 0 conversions, so my $10 was a learning experience. Fortunately it wasn't a transaction for this project.

I checked Technorati today and didn't see any reviews yet. Don't forget if you do a review of my BLOG with a link I will see it in Technorati and return the favor.

$0 Startup Business Models - Part 1 of 4

Instead of writing a series about getting traffic to your BLOG or website I want to write about business models. I will write about traffic another time.

With the penny doubler type projects, the first business model is simple.

Find a penny.

The next few steps are all small transactions. The amounts are too low to build a real business model.

For the early steps many people continue to find money, collect scrap to sell to a recycle company, or other small transactions.

Once you hit $1 or $5 then you need to start thinking up a plan. It doesn't have to be a plan to get to the end, just to the next level or two.

My business model was to create this BLOG and put advertising on it. An extension of my model is to build a network of BLOGs all supporting this BLOG. I may extend the business model again in the future when I have more money to spend.

You can operate as many business models as you want under the project. I like to spread my risk a little so that if something fails I don't have to start over from the beginning.

At one point I was considering buying something at an auction or yard sale to sell on Ebay. Since Ebay can be hit or miss I decided to focus on the BLOG instead of risking my position.

The next part of this series will include some photos that should help clear things up a little. I might even include a screen-capture video. To be true to the project I will use a free screen capture program and upload the video to YouTube.

John Chow Rocks The Internet

I am going to get the BLOG reviews off to a BIG start.

John Chow is one of my favorite BLOGs. As a matter of fact, I think he is my only Technorati Favorite. And out of the 20+ RSS feeds that I subscribe to John is always one of the first that I read.

His writing style is very friendly and inviting. Not something you would expect from someone of his status.

The things John writes about are very interesting and unique. For example today in one of his posts he mentioned a $140 Million house for sale. Video Included.

There are lots of photos on John's BLOG. It adds to the experience. A nice mix of photos and videos along with the story.

If you visit his BLOG go back a few days and check out his trip to CES. How awesome a trip that was. Check out all the free stuff he got too. Some day I hope to be able to get the inside scoop like he does.

John is also writing a "Dummies" book. "Becoming A Dot Com Mogul" I am not a fan of the "Dummies" books, but this is one that I will have to get. No word on when the book will be released, but if you subscribe to his BLOG I know he will announce when the pre-sale orders open.

Have a passion for making money then in addition to my BLOG, check out JohnChow.com

Money Making Social Networking For Low Budgets

Please do me a favor. I am asking if you have a website or BLOG, please post something about this BLOG and link back to me. If you don't have a BLOG you can add me to your Technorati Favorites.

In exchange for doing a post about me and this BLOG I will return the favor and write a post about your site or BLOG.

The internet is a big place and it is easy to get lost. But the beauty of the thing is that no matter where you are it only takes 1 second to get someplace else.

Thats what links are for, taking visitors to far off places in the blink of an eye.

No need to comment that you wrote about me. I will see it on Technorati.

Selling Stuff On Ebay - Or Not

I decided not to list anything on Ebay last night. Even with the good deal of 20cent listings. I really didn't think it was worth my time for the little bit of stuff I had to list.

There were a few magazine pages I was considering, but the effort would not be worth my time. Now if I had a bunch of pages and could generate more traffic from multiple listings, then it may have worked out.

In the end I figured I had better things to do then research and list 5 items on Ebay. But I am going to start a box of stuff for their next listing discount day.

I will probably add another BLOG to the OPP network this weekend.

MaxBounty vs. Hydra Network

Third post today, I know.

I just put up my first Hydra Network offer. It is a fair match for the site I put it on. There were tons of offer, I really like their selection.

The one thing I don't like is that you have to host the creatives yourself.

With MaxBounty and other networks all you do is click on the creative you want, copy the code and put it on your site.

Another plus for MaxBounty is that I already got a few checks from them. Last month my check was over $1000. The offer that brought in $600 of that isn't there anymore.

So if you want to call this a review. I like MaxBounty for the service they offer and how easy it is to use. With Hydra Network they have lots of offers to choose from, but it to early to tell about payments and conversions. Considering who told me about Hydra Network I am sure they pay on time. If not you will hear about it from me right here!

Advertising Network Approval

I just checked my email and got a surprise. Hydra Network approved me.

I forgot all about filling out the application form. It must have been 2 or 3 weeks ago.

There are a bunch of places that you can join to get advertising for your site or BLOG. Google AdSense is the easiest, but the key is eCPM.

You see how much you make per 1000 views with AdSense can be lower then what you could get with a CPL or CPA offer. I try to find only high quality, relevant offers.

Not to mention it is also nice to have multiple streams of income. Why limit yourself to one source?

I belong to at least 6 networks. So far, other then AdSense there is one company that I use most of the time. But Hydra Network has the most offers I have seen in any network other then CJ. I don't belong to CJ anymore because of their $10 a month low limit.

I am off to find some Hydra Network offers to test on my websites and BLOGs.

Ebay 20 Cent Listings Today

There are a few hours left. Today Ebay is offering 20 cent auction listings.

I have some stuff to put up. Nothing for the double penny project, just some stuff that is taking up space.

My advertising check came today, so I will add $1.35 to my total.

During lunch today I was thinking of ways to make money for this project. I saw another doubler that was doing penny stocks, but I don't want to do that. The stock market, especially penny stocks are too volatile. I would rather build something that will last. Or even better build something that will produce passive income.

Current Step: 11
Current Balance: $7.28
Need to get to next level: $2.72

I am off to make supper and put up some stuff on Ebay.

Something To Sell On Ebay

Today while doing some research I found an interesting ebook.

It is about selling pages from magazines and books on Ebay.

Magazines and Books on Ebay

I can tell you from experience that yes, you can sell a single page from a magazine on Ebay. When I had a magazine that didn't sell I would cut out some of the pages and list the individual pages up for sale.

The interesting thing is that I sold some of the single pages for more then I got for other complete magazines.

I didn't do much research on what sells best or what was in demand. Since at the time I had an Ebay store, I just listed everything. Now that I will have to pay regular auction listing prices I will do more research and only list the pages I think will sell for a nice price.

The Biggest Money Making Lesson From 2006

Last year there were 2 very big lessons I learned about making money online.

One of those lessons was having or using a good creative.

A creative is an advertising graphic to promote something. You see them everywhere.

When I put up advertising I always test. The one thing I learned that was having a good creative improves conversion.

The idea graphic gets a visitor to click. Once the visitor clicks then it is up to the website to do the conversion. That is the second part of what I learned last year.

Having a good offer to make a good creative for is very important. It doesn't matter how good your graphic and ad copy is if the offer is poor. And it doesn't matter how good the offer is if the creative is poor.

The two must work together.

Making Money From Spiders On Drugs

My friend Allen forwarded a link to me the other day. It was titled Spiders On Drugs.

It was a story about this guy who bought a video camera on Ebay for $300 and shot some footage of Spiders. I don't know if they were on drugs or not.

Then he edited the footage and uploaded it to YouTube as a private video. Then from there he tried to get national media exposure.

To cut a long story short, he got tons of traffic and publicity from YouTube and someone ended up buying exclusive rights or something like that. Even MTV contacted him about showing some of his video.

This is a great example of making something big from a simple idea.

Now, how can we make big money from small money?

Many thanks to all my loyal and regular readers. I appreciate all the comments.

Getting BLOG Traffic

Ok, I decided that the next series will be on getting traffic to your BLOG.

It will take me a few days to put together the outline and write up some of the content. Part One should be online late next week.

There are just so many things to do. Time goes by so fast.

I posted an article on one of my other BLOGs about "Rich". There was something in the news about if you are worth over $2,200 then you are part of the top 50% that would be considered rich. Having more then like $2 a day.

How powerful to think that even just the little bit of money I have right now would last months for people not as fortunate.

Passive Income - Part 6 of 6 - The Work Of Others

This is the final article on Passive Income Please feel free to leave your comments and suggestions. If this is your first time reading my Passive Income article, please start with Part One.

This is my personal favorite form of passive income. Making money from the work other people do.

A business hires employees to do specific tasks (also known as "Work"). These people who do "Work" can make money for you. In many cases the business make more money then they pay their employees. For example say I open a small coffee shop. Then I hire enough employees to have 3 working during busy hours and 2 during slow hours. One manager on each shift. As the coffee shop owner I would still have some work to do, but even while I am away from the shop it is still making money. In this example the coffee shop managers and employees are doing the work to make money for the business owner.

With an MLM downline or Network Marketing downline you profit from the work of others. This is normally in the form of a teired commission structure. In this example the downline is doing work to make money for the upline. I am not a big fan of MLM or network marketing.

A General Contractor takes on big projects and hires out each of the individual pieces. Other people do the work, but the General Contractor makes money from their work. Like the business owner above, there is some work involved, but think about the big picture. In this example the individual workers and businesses do the work to make money for the general contractor.

This is my number one idea of passive income. Hiring others to create digital information products that you market and sell as your own. For example, Use a freelance website like Elance or RentACoder to hire someone to write an ebook for you. Then build a webpage to sell that ebook. After the sales page is tested then list it on ClickBank and let others sell it for a commission. Other people wrote the ebook and other people will sell it for you. It takes some work to do the initial research and marketing. Once the system is in place, there is very little work to do. In this example the writer and affiliate promoters do the work to make money for the person who came up with the idea and put the system together.

I hope you liked my series on Passive income. Based on the feedback I got so far I will try to put out another series on income in a couple weeks. If you found this series helpful, please feel free to leave a donation using the button on the right.

As with all things in life there are no guarantees that you can or will earn any money from the information presented in this series or on this site.

Passive Income - Part 5 of 6 - Digital Information

Passive Income from digital information.

Selling information could also be considered passive, but delivery of that information my not be passive. That is why I am writing this under the topic of digital information.

The most common forms of digital information today are eBooks, videos and audio files.

Selling information is nothing new. Books, magazines and many other forms are available to sell information. But the ease of selling online and having that information in digital format is priceless. For example I can sell an ebook 24 hours a day, even while I am sleeping. I could go on vacation for 2 months and still make money without having to do anything. Let me add to that, the work to create an ebook can be done once and setting up and testing the system takes some time. But once the system is running you can let it go.

Heck, you don't even need to write your own ebook, you can promote other peoples ebooks, videos or audio files. Again, set-up a system and just check on it every so often. This is even better because you don't have to answer email question from customers.

Some places that have affiliate products you can promote are:

There are no 100% hands off passive income methods. With economic, social, competitive and a host of other variables, things will change. That is why you need to check in on the system every once and a while and put controls in place so that you don't loose too much money if something major happens.

Tomorrow will be Part Six, the final Passive Income report. If this is your first reading, Part One is here.

Passive Income - Part 4 of 6 - Rental Fee

The best title I can come up with for this Passive Income section is Rental Fee.

A rental fee can be charged for a physical product or a virtual product.

For example you buy a beach house, then rent it out 50 weeks a year. The income is somewhat passive or if you use a property management service, very passive.

This works best for expensive items where most people can't afford to own the item but desire the chance to use the item.

In a virtual setting we rent virtual assets. For example I rent space on my websites and BLOGs to advertisers. If someone collects email addresses and the person agrees to receive 3rd party email, that email list can be rented.

With rental income there may be some work required. There is also some risk, your rental property could get damaged, or your email list might run dry.

Stop back tomorrow for Part Five. If this is your first day, please read Part One.

Getting Ready To Grow The Network

First let me say. I decided to remove the advertising button where I was selling text links. Instead what I did was put up a donate button. Feel free to make a donation if you wish.

Tomorrow or Tuesday I will be adding another free BLOG to the OPP network.

The BLOG I added last week is growing in content. I just put a traffic meter on it yesterday so I don't know the traffic stats yet. This week I will start doing promotions for the BLOG I started last week. Then next week I will promote the BLOG I start this week.

It could take 2 or 3 months until there is any income from these new BLOGs. I found that it takes a while for the traffic to flow in from promotions. That is unless you pay for advertising.

Tomorrow I will go back to talking about passive income.

Making Money Without Google AdSense

When I add the next BLOG to the OPP network I am going to use other income networks.

The OPP network is a collection of BLOGs created as part of this project.

There is a good deal of talk on other forums and BLOGs about making better money in the CPA/CPL networks. I do have some experience with CPA/CPL networks, but not enough to rely solely on their revenue.

So for my next creation I am going to use 2 Affiliate Networks instead of Google AdSense. After 6 months (or more) I will add Google AdSense and see if income from the affiliate networks goes down.

Don't forget Passive Income Part Four will be online Monday.

Passive Income - Part 3 of 6 - Royalties or Licenses

Welcome back to the discussion on Passive Income.

This time we are going to talk about Royalties or Licenses

Royalties or Licenses are a great way to earn residual income.

Authors do research and write a book. After editing, publishing and some promotion they get paid every time a book is sold. The author could stop by NBC Morning Show to have a chat or go on a book signing tour. But you get the idea. The author did the work in the beginning, then slacked off at the end yet still earns passive income.

Photographers do this with their photos. I used to take pictures all the time. Life got busy and I slowed down. Now with digital photography I am back at it again. To sell my pictures in passive mode all I have to do is register with a stock photo agency and upload my pictures. Each time someone uses one of my pictures I get a royalty or they can buy a license (various levels).

Other areas that fit in the Royalties & Licenses section are Inventors, Songwriters, Screenplay Writers, Actors, Game Designers and Software Developers.

As you can see this is a great stream of income to add to your portfolio. What skills do you have that you can benefit from on a Royalty or License basis?

Part Four will be online Monday. If you didn't start from the beginning, here is a link to Part One

Passive Income - Part 2 of 6 - Commission

Ok, this one is borderline passive.

Income from commission is often easier after the initial work is completed.

For example an Insurance Agent must work to gain your business, then they have to get you the right insurance, then for the most part they wait until you call them. You keep paying your insurance bills and they keep earning commission. Most of the work was done early on.

Marketing Consultants, Bill Auditors, and Copywriters are just a few other ways to earn a residual commission by performing a service.

The key is the residual part of the commission.

Earning a percentage of sales produced buy a customer that you referred is another way to earn commission. Many big networks operate this way. For example if someone buys an Entertainment Book from me I will earn a small commission from that.

Depending on the set-up it could be multi tiered where you earn commission on multiple levels. Much like Multi Level Marketing.

Just a quick note on Multi Level Marketing. I am against any program that uses getting other people into the program as its main form of income. I don't feel right getting people to sign up for a program knowing that the only way they can make money is if they refer people into the same program.

Stop back tomorrow for Part Three. If you missed Part One Click Here.

Passive Income - Part 1 of 6 - Interest

This is the first of 6 Posts on Passive Income. I was going to do this as a HotSheet, but changed my mind.

Interest is probably the most obvious form of passive income.

Some places to earn interest include Savings Accounts at your local bank, Certificates of Deposit, Savings Bonds, Mutual Funds and Stocks.

Interest rates can be fixed or variable. Some forms of investing money for interest can involve higher levels of risk. Like the stock market.

I included the stock market here because some larger stocks pay dividends. Feel free to comment if you think otherwise or would like to include other forms of interest.

You may want to include Interest as one of your income streams. As you will see in the rest of the passive income sections Interest involves lower risk and lower returns.

This was part 1 of 6 on the One Penny Project - Passive Income Report.

Can Double Free = Double Income?

Last night I created a new BLOG to be a part of the One Penny Project (OPP) Network. I decided to expand the OPP network of sites. So as of right now there is this BLOG that talks about the details of the OPP and my progress. The new BLOG will be on a related topic, but not talk about doubling money.

I will link my new BLOG to here, but not link back at this point in time. I don't want to increase my competition in under 24 hours.

If you are working on a project to double your money with the 28 steps process I highly suggest getting a free BLOG. They are a great way to document your progress.

Making money online has got to be the most fun way to make money that there is. I'm starting to think about $0 investing again. With $0 investing I would not touch any of the money that comes in and rely only on free methods to make money.

I know that I will only get so far, but what a statement that would make. My goal is to produce $100 using the Penny Project rules, but without investing the money that comes in.

After I hit $100 then I will start using the money that comes in to start doubling. I reserve the right to change my mind. As soon as this is carved in stone I will be at an auction with the chance to get a great deal and have to turn it down.

So this is a goal for now. As always my progress will be listed here.

[Step 11] - Now Over $5 - More Advertising Income

Today I am adding $1.92 in advertising income. My other ad network also shows income, but will have to wait until the check comes to log it.

Someone on the warrior forum bought me a "beer". That is the term they use when you pay someone $5 because they answered your question and saved you some money or helped you grow your business. Should I count this $5 in the penny project? I don't think I will since I didn't set out to answer a question just for this project.

I didn't stop at the auction down the street. When I went past on my way to Borders it was packed. I don't like when there are too many people. That adds competition and drives up prices.

Current Step: 11
Current Balance: $5.83
Need to get to next level: $4.17

Take Care,

Michael

Buying Stuff At Auction To Sell On Ebay

Today there is an auction down the street from my house.

In the past I had some luck with auctions. I also lost some money buying stuff that I couldn't sell.

Since I don't have much on this project right now I will try to find something for $1. That will leave me room to pay for the ebay listing and enough money left for additional transactions if this doesn't work.

Who knows I might not find anything at the auction.

Later today I will figure out my advertising income for the One Penny Project BLOG and record it.

Looking forward to hitting at least 5 figures this year on the One Penny Project.
